Teledoctor service launched

Government plans to enact legislation to protect the confidentiality of patients.

Community Development, Mother and Child Minister, Emmerine Kabanshi says patients have a right to confidentiality.

Ms Kabanshi was speaking Wednesday when she launched the Teledoctor Service in Lusaka.

She was responding to concerns from Zambia Medical Association President Dr. Aaron Mujajati- on the confidentially of patients.

Ms. Kabanshi said government is aware of the advancement of technology, hence the need that all patients are accorded their privacy.

She said the Teledoctor Service will enable Women in both rural and urban Zambia to access specialist advice.

And Teledoctor Executive Chairman, Dr. Wilbroad Mutale said the service is accessible in all the seven local languages and is available with effect from April 29, 2015 on the telephone number 7100.

Dr. Mutale explained that the group of doctors from both the private and public sector have come up with the initiative to help mitigate Doctor to Patient ratio in health institutions.

Meanwhile ZAMTEL Managing Director, Mumpanga Mwanakatwe said the telecommunication company is playing a major role in creating a platform through which patients and Doctors are able to interact.
