Nurses told to call off strike
The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions -ZCTU- has called on nurses countrywide to immediately call off their protests.
ZCTU Secretary General Roy Mwaba says nurses should return to work as there is no justification to continue with the protests because government is rectifying disparities in the implementation of their recently increased salaries.
He told ZNBC News that nurses that have not been given new salaries as agreed in the collective agreement will receive their new increased wages this October.
And Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation -ZUNO- president Tom Yungana says nurses should go back to work because there is no dispute between government and the nurses.
He says government has already started rectifying the anomaly.
On Friday, Public Service Management Division Permanent Secretary Velepi Mtonga assured the nation that Government is addressing all genuine anomalies and affected workers shall be paid correctly in the month of October, 2013 but effective 1st September, 2013 as per 213 Collective Agreements.
The protests by nurses relate to anomalies in the implementation of the revised salaries especially Salary Grade F and G.
