Govt firm on UNZA, CBU closure
The Ministry of Higher Education says it will not reopen the University of Zambia and the Copperbelt University until it sees levels of maturity in the students.
Higher Education Minister Michael Kaingu says it is clear that students are not remorseful as exhibited by some posting on social media.
Dr. Kaingu says student must be rational as opposed to being used to fuel violence.
He says government does not take pride in closing any institution of higher learning.
Dr. Kaingu has appealed to students to remain calm as government looks for money to pay their meal allowances.
He was speaking on a TV2’s Morning Live Programme on Monday.
Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson Charity Chanda urged student to engage their unions whenever they are aggrieved.
Mrs. Chanda says police has received information of a planned demonstration by parents on Copperbelt to pressure government to reopen the two public Universities.
She says those planning to do so must follow procedure.
