Lumwana mine empowers farmers
Lumwana Copper Mine has challenged smallholder farmers in the Lumwana catchment area in Kalumbila district to produce quality agricultural products that can compete on the market.
Company Sustainability Manager Brenda Tambatamba says the market for agricultural products is there but smallholder farmers are lacking skills to produce quality products and package them to meet the demand of the market.
She was speaking when she officiated at the training of the second set of 30 smallholder farmers in quality control and assurance training at Mwaka Lodge in Solwezi.
Ms.Tambatamba further said Lumwana mine has targeted 90 smallholder farmers in its catchment area to benefit from the training.
Meanwhile smallholder farmers have commended Lumwana Mine for transforming their lives through the support they are receiving in terms of capacity building in Food quality control and safety assurance.
And a smallholder farmer Johnson Ntambo from Mutanda assured the mines that they will utilize the knowledge acquired from the training and produce quality products to supply to the mines and other institutions competitively.
