LUNGU to open IPU
All is set for the one hundred and 34th Inter-Parliamentary Union -IPU- Assembly to be hosted in Lusaka tomorrow.
President Edgar Lungu is expected to officially open the IPU Assembly which has attracted over two thousand delegates across the globe.
IPU president, Saber Chowdhury says six hundred and 70 members of parliament from one hundred and 25 countries have confirmed participation.

Mr. Chowdhury told the Media at a briefing in Lusaka today that the assembly attracted 88 speakers and deputy speakers.

He said the assembly provides an opportunity for parliaments to escalate their oversight role in advocating for the development agenda.

And Speaker of the National Assembly, Patrick Matibini said hosting of the IPU Assembly is a great milestone for Zambia.
Dr. Matibini said Zambia recognises the efficacy of the IPU in promoting and strengthening the institution of parliament.
Meanwhile, Secretary General, Martin Chungong is hopeful that the assembly will come up with positive resolutions on various issues especially those identified among the Sustainable Development Goals.
