KK woos Canadian investors
First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda has delivered a special goodwill message from President Michael Sata which was received by the Canadan Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird on behalf of Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Dr. Kaunda delivered the message at an event which took place at the Parliament Building in Ottawa where he held bilateral talks with Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird.
The First Republican President was accompanied by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada Bob Samakai and Assistant Director for America’s at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lusaka, Patricia Chisanga, First Secretary Economics and Trade Frday Chilufya and
office of First Republican President Liaison officer, Cheswa Silwizya.
Dr. Kaunda has applauded the excellent relations that Canada and Zambia continue to enjoy.
He has also appreciated Canadian investments in Zambia particularly in the mining sector where it has created thousands of Jobs.
Dr. Kaunda says Canadian Investments in the Mining sector in Zambia is reportedly to be more than 6 Billion US Dollars.
He called for Canadian investment in Zambia as the Country is conducive for Foreign Direct Investment.
The First Republican President has told the Meeting that Zambia would like to continue working with Canada and get assistance to help it grow economically and end poverty.
Dr. Kaunda has reminded the Meeting of the Zambia/Canada friendship which dates back to the time Zambia got its independence in 1964.
He has applauded Canada for standing strongly against apartheid and colonialism in Africa which helped in securing freedom and justice for oppressed people in Southern Africa.
In response Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister JOHN BAIRD has thanked Dr. Kaunda for taking time to meet with him.
He says Dr. Kaunda is truly a giant of freedom for helping fight injustice, colonialism and now HIV/AIDS in Africa.
MR. Baird says Canada will continue supporting Zambia.
He says once the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement -FIPA is signed and implemented between Canada and Zambia, Canada will even do more to encourage Canadian investment to Zambia.
Zambia just recently signed the ‘Declaration of Intent on the conclusion of the negotiations of a bilateral Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement” on 4th March, 2013 in Toronto.
The , Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, Ed fast, signed on behalf of Canada and Zambia’s High Commissioner to Canada to Bobby Mbunji signed on behalf of Zambia.
