ZCTU opposes another bid to extend Constitution drafting deadline
The Labour Movement has opposed another attempt by the Technical Committee Drafting the Zambian Constitution to have a month extension to conclude its work.
Zambia Congress of Trade Unions -ZCT- has called on Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba not to entertain any request by the committee to extend its mandate beyond the agreed June 30 deadline.
Secretary General, Roy Mwaba has told ZNBC News that the constitution making process should not be allowed to gobble any more than the 100 Million kwacha rebased already spent on the exercise.
And MMD Youth Wing Coordinator Bowman Lusambo says Zambians are eager to have a new constitution and will not allow any further delays to the process.
The Technical Committee has submitted another application for extension of the deadline barely three days after Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba dismissed an earlier application by the committee for six months extension to 31st Decmber.
The fresh request for a 30-day extension period comes with a supplementary budget of 15.8 million kwacha –rebased.
