Government has started recalling retired Anesthetists to mitigate a critical shortage of staff in the country's public health institutions.Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao told ZNBC news that a number of retired anesthetists have already been contacted and are willing to be re-engaged.
Mr Simbao said the response has been positive although the country does NOT have many retired anesthetists.
Anesthetists are medical professionals who help prepare patients before undergoing surgery.
Meanwhile, the construction of Lusaka General Hospital will be completed by November this year three months earlier than schedule.
Mr. Simbao said works on the hospital have reached an advanced stage and that the Chinese company building the hospital for free will also provide equipment.
The Minister explained that government will provide personnel at Lusaka General Hospital once it is constructed.
The construction of Lusaka General Hospital will bring the number of hospitals to eight in Lusaka following the upgrading of clinics.
