Kuku still flooded
More than Fifty houses in LUSAKA's KUKU township are still flooded, six months after heavy rains caused floods in the city.
Most of the flooded houses are earmarked for demolition by the Lusaka City Council because they were built in quarry ditches.
A ZNBC News Crew found that the water levels were receding slowly, while power was still disconnected from the houses.
Some Residents have also opted to use portable toilets because pit latrines are also flooded.
Access to water is also a problem as most water points are submerged posing a threat to human life.
A Kuku resident Margaret Mwanag’ombe, who is one of the Landlords, said she does not object to the council’s decision to demolish houses built in the quarry ditches and are now flooded.
She however urged Government to come up with a mechanism to compensate them.
Lusaka Acting Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga told ZNBC that the local authority will only demolish houses that have been built in quarry ditches.
