Smoking banned
The Ministry of Local Government has announced that government has with immediate effect prohibited smoking in public places.The ban has been effected through a Statutory Instrument signed by Local Government Minister Sylvia Masebo on April 9, this year.
The Statutory Instrument number 39 of 2008 has since been gazetted.
She said government was compelled to issue the instrument because some people smoke in public places with no regard to other.
The Minister said any person who will contravene the regulation will commit an offence and will be liable upon conviction to a fine of K400,000, or in default an imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both.
Meanwhile, Ms MASEBO announced that the government will proceed to implement the Bus Stations and Markets Act.
