ZAFFICO managment prodded

The new Zambia forestry and Forest Industries Corporation-ZAFFICO management has been challenged to effectively respond to environmental issues affecting the country.

Environment Permanent Secretary GLADYS KRISTAFOR says the Forestry Act has been revised to include a category of commercial forest plantation whose control and management shall be vested in ZAFFICO.

She said government is pleased that ZAFFICO has taken serious steps in ensuring that the tree planting program is intensified.

Mrs. KRISTAFOR was speaking at a press briefing in Ndola after a four day tour of forestry institutions on the Copperbelt.

She said government also wants citizens to co-operate in mitigating climate change and avoid practices that cause environmental degradation.

Meanwhile Mrs. KRISTAFOR has revealed that Zambia Forestry College is reviewing the curriculum to incorporate emerging factory issues.

She said the college will rehabilitate Mwekera Bee Keeping Factory to revamp the Bee-keeping project.
