Minister of Energy Mathews Nkhuwa says works to rehabilitate the Kariba Dam are expected to start in the next two months.
Mr. Nkhuwa says over 250 million U.S dollars is already available for the works and the contractor is geared to commence.
The development objective for the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project is to improve the safety and reliability of the Dam.
This will be done by supporting the reshaping of the plunge pool, refurbishment of the spillway and enhancing operations to bring them in line with international dam safety standards.
And the Minister of energy has told ZNBC News in an interview that Rural electrification Authority- REA- and Government have embarked on a 7,000 kilometer electrification project to connect power to more rural areas.
Mr. Nkhuwa says 50 million United States Dollars is needed annually to sustain the project and ensure it remains on course.
