Petauke Member of Parliament Dora Siliya has taken a swipe at Petauke Council officials for failing to attend to the needs of marketeers in the district.
Speaking when she addressed marketeers at Petauke New market this afternoon, Ms. Siliya said it is unacceptable that the market should continue operating without water and other necessary facilities.
She said it is the duty of the council and its officials to attend to the needs of the people.
Marketeers complained of the council’s failure to address issues of trading spaces and water.
Meanwhile Ms. Siliya has donated 100 thousand Kwacha to marketeers empowerment funds to marketeers.
She said the money is meant to empower marketeers especially women to grow their businesses.
Ms. Siliya is in Petauke to inspect government projects.
