Over 300 members of the United Party for National Development -UPND- in Ngweze Ward in Kazungula district have joined the Patriotic Front – PF.
Leonard Malindi , who led a group in Nalombe area, says despite having been overwhelmingly voting for the UPND in the past elections, the party has failed to honour its promises, and that the people in the area are now tired of being in the opposition.
And receiving the new members, PF Southern Province Chairperson Lawrence Evans promised to lobby for development of the area and has assured the villagers that the water challenge in the area will be addressed before 2021.
The over three hundred UPND defectors are from Nalombe and Bombwe areas of Ngweze Ward, in Kazungula district.
But UPND Spokesperson, Stephen Katuka has accused the PF of faking defections in an effort to convince people that the UPND is losing members.
Mr. Katuka has advised the PF to concentrate on delivering on its promises as opposed to concentrating on the politics of parading what he termed as fake defectors.
