Minister of Works and Supply Felix Mutati says the agriculture sector ‘s contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product – GDP- has remained uninspiring.
Mr. Mutati says this is because the country has failed to minimise and mitigate wastage particularly in the horticulture industry.
He was speaking at a meeting on investment prospects in Zambia in Lusaka today.
The Minister said dividends that can be realised from the agriculture sector are huge if the country can translate the diversification of the economy into a practical output.
He said he is happy that Musika has done a critical research, which will help mitigate and minimise wastage associated with the horticulture industry.
Earlier, Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute Chief Executive Officer Chance Kabaghe called for investments into the horticulture industry.
And Musika Managing Director Reuben Banda said his firm remains committed to providing support to the private sector to develop a modern horticulture market, which will benefit small scale farmers.
