The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called for a free and non-violent Roan parliamentary by-election in Luanshya slated for April 11, 2019.
Provincial Electoral Officer, Claude Nyirenda, has also implored all stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure that the by-election is conducted in a free and fair manner.
Speaking during an ECZ election nomination briefing in Luanshya, Mr Nyirenda said all parties have a duty to ensure that their members are not used as tools of violence during campaigns.
ZANIS reports from Luanshya that Mr Nyirenda, who is also Copperbelt Provincial Local Government officer, encouraged all stakeholders to amicably settle their differences.
And Luanshya District Electoral Officer Timothy Mambalakata said the filing in of nominations will open tomorrow March 14th, 2019, at 09:00 hours and close at 15:00 hours at Roan Antelope Secondary School.
Mr Mbalakata, explained that the filing of papers will start with National Democratic Congress (NDC) at 10:00 hours, followed by Peoples Alliance for Change PAC at 11:00 hours.
The UPND will file in at 12:00 hours and will be followed by United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) at 13:00 hours and will end at 14 hours with the PF.
The Roan parliamentary seat fell vacant after Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini declared outspoken Chishimba Kambwili’s seat vacant.
