A Chinese Company has proposed to partner with government to install solar panels at rural health centres in the country in a project called Solar Power Investment in health.
China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation Zambia Limited says the solar panels are meant to provide electricity to rural health centres and also help pump and supply water to surrounding areas.
China Civil Engineering General Manger Eric Ding says the solar panels will help to purify water.
Mr. Ding was speaking when his company handed over a solar powered health centre in Nsonga area in Mansa district.
He said the project is an initiative of Mansa Central MP Chitalu Chilufya.
And Dr. Chilufya says the solar power investment for health will help in ensuring that rural health posts operate 24 hours and also ensure the provision of clean water to the surrounding areas.
He explained that the benefits to be accrued from the solar power investment for health includes prevention of water borne diseases as the project will be able to supply clean water to the local communities.
Dr. Chilufya pointed out that the project is not expensive as China Civil Engineering has only spent 1. 5 Million Kwacha to set up the solar power project at Tsonga.
