Paramount Chief Chitimukulu has commended government for prioritizing the implementation of poverty reduction programmes in rural areas.
Chief Chitumukulu says government should be commended for making strides in uplifting the welfare of the under-privileged through initiatives aimed at reducing household poverty.
The Mwinelubemba said this when a team of officers from the Fisheries Department and ward councillors paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Mungwi.
The team went to the palace to brief Paramount Chief Chitimukulu on the Zambia Aquaculture Enterprise Development Project.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu thanked government for selecting Mungwi to be among the first five districts that will benefit from the aquaculture project.
And Provincial Fisheries Officer Ramans Kayumu informed the Chitimukulu that the Zambia Aquaculture Enterprise Development Project is aimed at increasing the production of fish locally in order to meet the country’s demand.
Mr Kayumu revealed that the project seeks to empower local fish farmers mainly women and youth with skills in fish production as well as start-up capital.
The Zambia Aquaculture Enterprise Development Project is a five-year project which is being funded by the Africa Development Bank.
And in another development Chieftainess Mungule of the Lenje speaking people of Chibombo district has thanked government for development projects being implemented in her chiefdom.
Speaking when Central Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kabwe paid a courtesy call on her at her palace, Chieftainess Mungule said the Head of State has clearly demonstrated his willingness to develop every corner of the country including in places where e was not voted for.
Chieftainess Mungule has called on all headmen in her chiefdom not to entertain tribal politics.
Chieftainess Mungule said this through headman Chibosha, Kebby Kapopo.
And Mr Chanda said government values the contribution of chiefs to national development.
Mr. Chanda also said that President Lungu wants to work with all traditional leaders in order to unite the country and take development to every corner of the country.
Mr. Chanda who is also President Empowerment Initiative patron handed over 5000 blocks and 200 pockets of cement to the Chieftainess that she requested the head of state towards the construction of a multipurpose hall for the chiefdom.
