Government has marginally adjusted some allowances for council workers across the country.
The upward adjustments include subsistence allowance and out of pocket perks.
And the Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union -ZULAW is confident that Government will up salaries of council workers in 2018.
ZULAW Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Mwinsa says the 2018 talks for improved salaries and other working conditions are expected to start soon.
Mr. Mwinsa has told ZNBC News in Kitwe that ZULAW has since written to Government and presented its proposals to the bargaining team.
He said council workers are demanding for a reasonable adjustment in salaries for next year.
And ZULAW is optimistic that Government will centralize the payroll system of local Government workers.
Mr. Mwinsa said the process to transfer council workers’ salaries to the Government payroll has advanced.
He added that the current decentralized way of paying salaries has proved to be ineffective.
