Dr. Chilufya clears air on Ambulances


Government says the total cost of the package for the supply of purpose built ambulances that it is in the process of buying is Eleven point 5 million United States Dollars.

Minister of Health, Chitalu Chilufya told Parliament that the contract also includes support maintenance for the Mercedes Benz ambulances, training of twenty mechanics, fifty drivers and 1 hundred health workers.

He has explained that Government in 2015 awarded the contract to Savenda Limited to supply 50 modernised ambulances for emergency and mobile health services following the floating of an international competitive tender.

Dr. Chilufya also says the services are targeted at maternity, sudden Non-Communicable Diseases and other sudden catastrophic conditions.

He was speaking in response to a question by Kabompo Member of Parliament, Ambrose Lufuma who wanted to find out why Government is about to procure fifty ambulances at an exorbitant price.
