Government has assured people in Eastern Province that new bridges will be constructed in areas where they have been washed away by heavy rains.
Ministry of Housing and Infrastructural Development Permanent Secretary Charles Mushota said the construction of the bridges will start within the first quarter of this year.
Mr. Mushota said the bridges will be constructed under the ACCRO bridge program which will also include rehabilitation of several feeder roads in the province.
He said Government is committed to creating a good road network system that will ease transportation of farm produce for farmers in Eastern Province.
Mr. Mushota was speaking when he inspected several bridges that have been washed away in Pateuke district.
And Chieftainess Mwanjabantu of Petauke District thanked Government for responding to the needs of the people swiftly.
The Traditional Leader said her subjects are facing challenges accessing their farming inputs due to the bad state of roads connecting to her Chiefdom.
