ECL Commissions road



President Edgar Lungu has officially Commissioned works for the upgrading of the 1-hundred and 22 kilometers Kawambwa-Mporokoso road.


The road was commissioned at Chimpempe on the boundary between Luapula and Northern.


President Lungu said the road that will be upgraded by China Harbour at a cost of 1-hundred and 42 Million US dollars is expected to be completed within 24 months.


The President added that he is confident that China Harbour will do a good job because it has a global reputation.


He said once completed the road will boast tourism and agricultural activities in Luapula and Northern Provinces.


The Head of State also says the commissioning of the Luapula expo and the road is well timed.


President Lungu pointed out that government is vigorously pursuing an economic agenda to diversify the country from copper dependence to agriculture.


He said this is why Government is opening up various regions in order ease transportation of goods and services.


President Lungu said it is not a secret that the country has witnessed unprecedented development.


The President said the road is a landmark development.


Meanwhile President Lungu has warned that he will not hestate to take action if the policy of giving 10 percent of the contract to local people is ignored.


And Luapula Province Minister Nixson Chilangwe said the people of Luapula are happy that Government has continued to fulfill all campaign promises.


He said the two provinces of Luapula and Northern will not forget what government is doing.


Mr Chilangwe said Government administrations in the two provinces will support the road contractor to ensure that the project is completed on time.


He added that the road will unlock a lot of development opportunities in the region.


And a China Harbour General manager Claude peng said the road will constructed to the highest standard and within the specified period.


And Housing and Infrastructure development Ronald Chitotela said the project is a clear demonstration that President Lungu remains committed to taking development to every part of the country.
