The Ministry of General Education has stopped the processing of teacher transfer authorisation from the ministry headquarters but has instead handed the function to provincial offices.
Ministry of General Education Permanent Secretary Jobbicks Kalumba announced the development in Chembe district.
Dr Kalumba said a circular has been issued to all provincial education officers countrywide to take charge of the teacher transfers from their respective provinces.
He said the move will help balance the teacher ratio in urban and rural areas.
And Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has welcomed the move by the ministry of general education saying that over 500 teachers seated on the Luapula establishment are executing their services elsewhere.
The Minister said this when Mr Kalumba called on him at his office in Mansa district before meeting teachers at Don Bosco School.
