The Food and Agriculture Organization -FAO- has spent about 4-hundred thousand U.S dollars to help government control the Fall Armyworms.
FAO Country Representative George Okech says the organization is also providing technical support to the Ministry of Agriculture to come up with strategies on the control of the pest.
Dr. Okech says his organization working with other partners has trained ministry of agriculture staff and extension workers who will in turn train farmers to identify and manage Fall Armyworms.
He says the organization has also involved the University of Zambia and the Zambia Agricultural Research Institute -ZARI- to do more research in the control, monitoring and early warning systems of the pest.
The country representative says there is need to invest more in research to find biological ways of getting rid of the larvae.
