Vice President Inonge Wina has assured Zambians that President Edgar Lungu will not allow anyone to die of starvation due to the poor rainfall in some parts of the country this season.
Mrs. Wina says the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit – DMMU- in her office is on alert and already on the ground to distribute relief food to affected areas including Chiawa in Kafue district which has also been affected.
The Vice President said this in Chiawa area of Kafue District at a political rally to drum up support for PF candidate Moono Simakoloyi ahead of the Council Chairperson by election slated for March 27th, 2019.
Mrs. Wina was quick to state that taking relief food to the area should not be politicized as vote buying but government’s quick response to avert the hunger situation.
She said President Lungu’s administration cannot allow citizens to suffer when solutions are readily available to address the challenges affecting the vulnerable poor masses.
And the Vice President said President Lungu is committed to ensuring all parts of the country receive a reasonable share of the national cake and that he does not discriminate on partisan lines as he is a President for all Zambians.
The Vice President was accompanied by Justice Minister Given Lubinda, Copperbelt Province Minister Japhen Mwakalombe, Chilanga Member of Parliament Maria Langa and PF Deputy Media Director Antonio Mwanza, among other government and PF officials.
Earlier Mrs. Wina paid a courtesy call on Chieftainess Chiawa of the Goba people of Kafue District where she bemoaned the low rainfall that has characterised the 2018/2019 farming season.
She described the low rainfall pattern as a national calamity.
