First Quantum Minerals -FQM- has applauded government for lifting the ban on the night time movement of freight and goods vehicles.
FQM Country Manager Kingsley Chinkuli notes that government’s decision to revise the Statutory Instrument of 2016 by giving the mining industry Trucks, the exemption to move around the clock, is hugely welcome.
In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka, General Chinkuli observed that the ban on the night time movement of Trucks had severely hampered the mining company’s operations.
Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba this week revised SI 76 of 2016 to give an opportunity to the trucks that transport large volume of cargo to move at any time with no restrictions.
This is upon meeting conditions set by the Road Transport and Safety Agency, RTSA.
The regulation that restricted the movement of public transport service vehicles at night came into effect on November 28, 2016 and constrained the movement of any freight or goods vehicles from travelling between 21 hours and 05 hours.
