Minister of National Planning Alexander Chiteme says government wants to see a healthy and well-planned population in the country.
M. Chiteme says that’s the reason government is committed to increasing budgetary allocations towards programmes which promote family planning services.
Mr Chiteme said government wants to see all the women have easy access to family planning services in all parts of the country.
He was speaking during the World Population Day in Chongwe under the theme “Family planning is a human right”.
And Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya says the ministry will ensure that family planning services are available to everyone as it is a health issue.
Dr Chilufya said this through Lusaka Province Acting Health Director Cozia Zyambo.
And UN Resident Coordinator, Janet Rogan thanked Zambia for making strong commitments on women’s rights, especially the right to plan her family.
Ms Rogan said Zambia has good national targets for family planning, targeting to raise the national contraceptive prevalence rate from 33 to 58 percent by 2020.
Meanwhile Chieftainess Nkomenshya Mukamambo says family planning reduces maternal deaths.
Speaking at the same event through a representative, Chief Nkomenshya however, urged government to ensure that family planning services are easily accessed.
