President Edgar Lungu says government will support initiatives that are aimed at addressing infertility in the country.
President Lungu is happy that Merck Foundation and the First Lady of Zambia have come on board to deal with infertility.
He was speaking when First Lady Esther Lungu introduced Merck Foundation chief executive officer and president of Merck More than a Mother Rasha Kelej to him at State House today.
The Head of State said some women have been abused and divorced because in the African context it is believed that only females are infertile and YET infertility affects men and women.
President Lungu said he is happy that the Merck Foundation has trained journalists to understand infertility.
He explained that the media is a front line in communication and that training them is key to addressing challenges surrounding infertility.
And Merck Foundation chief executive officer and president of Merck More than a Mother Rasha Kelej suggested that Zambia should host the 2020 Merck Africa -Asia Conference.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya thanked Merck foundation for offering Scholarships to Zambian medical personnel.
