The Ministry of Higher Education says it has recovered over 8 million Kwacha through Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board that commenced in September 2018.
Ministry of General education Public relations officer Chiselwa Kawanda says the loans were recovered from beneficiaries whose loans have matured since they left the University of Zambia and the Copperbelt University.
Ms. Kawanda says the ministry of higher education managed to deduct the loans through government payroll under public service Management Division (PSMD).
And Ms. Kawanda has disclosed that the Ministry will start loan deductions for those that are in private sector this December.
She says major beneficiaries like Mopani Copper mines, the university of Zambia, Copperbelt University and the United Bank for Africa have already been engaged.
Ms. Kawanda says a total of Five Thousand Five Hundred and 81 Thousand have successfully registered with the University and High Education Loans Board through screening process that was conducted between 7th and 30th November.
