President Edgar Lungu has assured Zambians that Government will distribute relief food to areas that have been affected by dry spells.
President Lungu has disclosed that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU- has already started distribution of food in areas that have been hit by hunger.
He said this when he met traditional leaders in Chiawa.
The Head of State said the distribution of food in such areas should not be perceived as a campaign strategy ahead of the by election in Kafue district.
He explained that it is the duty of Government to come to the aid of the people during such times.
Meanwhile, Chief Chipepo of Southern Province urged President Lungu to ignore political players who are politicizing Government’s distribution of relief food.
Chief Chipepo said government has a duty to offer relief food to people and help those who are in need.
And Chieftainess Chiawa thanked President Lungu for responding swiftly to the appeals of people for assistance in her Chiefdom.
