Defence Minister Davies Chama says Zambia is in the process of buying modern equipment for defence forces.
Mr Chama was speaking in Johannesburg, South Africa in transit to Cape-Town where he will be attending the Armed Forces Day.
He said Zambia was collaborating closely with other SADC countries as current SADC chair on Politics, defence and security cooperation.
Mr Chama mentioned that this was being achieved through Joint Permanent Commissions (JPC) with member countries.
He added that about 8- hundred Zambian soldiers and military observers have since been deployed in different countries on the continent and beyond to help maintain peace.
This is according to a statement released to ZNBC News by first secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambia High Commission in South Africa Naomi Nyawali.
