Government has appealed to the Martial Arts Federation of Zambia to develop strategies that will grow the sport especially in rural areas.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development, Moses Mawere says his office wants to see more Zambian Karatekas’ on the world Podium, a dream he says can only be achieved through good governance and Management of the sport.
Mawere was Speaking in a speech read for him by Ministry of Sports Deputy Director Gibson Muyaule.
This was during the Japanese Ambassador’s tournament held in Lusaka today.
And the Japanese government has pledged to continue sponsoring the growth of the sport in Zambia.
Japanese Ambassador to Zambia Hidenobu Sobashima said Karatekas should work hard and qualify for Tokyo 2020 Olympics where the sport will be staged for the first time in its history.
Speaking at the same event Executive Chairperson of the United World Federation and Karate African President, Imtiaz Abudulla said Zambian Youths can use the sport’s discipline to improve their society.
Five Countries have participated in this year’s Japanese Ambassador’s karate tournament.
