President Edgar Lungu says cyclone Idai that hit neighbouring countries should save as a wakeup call to Zambia.
President Lungu says climate change is real as can be seen from the unusual rainfall pattern that the country is experiencing.
The Head of State said it is important to ensure that the country’s food security is secured in the face of climate change.
President Lungu said this when Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland paid a courtesy call on him at State House.
And Dr. Scotland said the fragile climate is putting a risk on food security in most countries.
She said there is need for countries to find ways of helping each other respond to effects of climate change.
President Lungu later went into a closed-door meeting with Dr Scotland
