More than 6-hundred thousand households in ten districts on the Copperbelt are expected to undergo indoor residual spraying to eliminate mosquitoes.
Copperbelt Province Medical Director, Robert Zulu says the Ministry of Health wants to ensure more than 80 percent of households are sprayed in the next 45 days.
Dr. Zulu says the mining firms among other business entities have collaborated with the ministry of health during the exercise.
He disclosed this in Kitwe today during the official launch of the indoor residual spraying campaign under the theme Together We Can Eliminate Malaria By Having Our Houses Sprayed.
And Dr. Zulu said the Ministry of Health wants to totally eradicate malaria by the year 2021.
Meanwhile, Kitwe District Commissioner, Binwell Mpundu has appealed to the communities to cooperate with spray operators and allow them to spray their homes to fight malaria.
Earlier, Kitwe District Health Director, George Mukupa said his office has trained more than 1-hundred and 50 spray operators drawn from various parts of Kitwe and that they are already on the ground.
