Government wants to enhance value addition to the Mukula tree so that jobs can be created locally.
Minister of Lands Jean Kapata was speaking this morning in Makeni at the handover of 52 truckloads of Mukula logs that has been intercepted and forfeited to the state.
She has however expressed concerned that some people have continued with the illegal trade of Mukula.
And Ms Kapata has emphasised that the ban on export of unprocessed timber is still in effect.
And Zambia Revenue Authority-ZRA-Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda said the 52 truckloads of Mukula logs are worth 7.8 Million Kwacha exclusive of taxes.
Mr. Chanda said the trucks were intercepted from different parts of the country in 2017.
He also disclosed that four more trucks laden with Mukula logs have been intercepted and are still undergoing verification.
Meanwhile, Central Joint Operations Committee Chairperson Brigadier General William Sikazwe said the committee will work with other security agencies and ZRA to help curb the scourge.
