MMD president Felix Mutati has bemoaned low tax compliance levels in most African countries saying the trend is affecting service delivery.
Mr. Mutati, a former finance minister, has since urged African governments to devise methods to make citizens more tax compliant.
Speaking during a 3-day international conference organised by the Jesuit Hakimani Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, Mr. Mutati said that to achieve this, governments must ensure that citizens appreciate the benefits of tax payment.
He also encouraged governments on the continent to build capacity among tax collectors to ensure that enough resources are mobilised for economic and social development.
