Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa says the agriculture sector in the region is destined for growth due to increased investment that has been attracted.
Mr. Chilangwa says Luapula Province is uniquely endowed with abundant water and land for agricultural development.
He says his office will continue seeking ways of enhancing the performance of the agriculture sector, which is critical to reducing poverty and malnutrition.
Mr. Chilangwa was speaking in Samfya District during the Workshop on Public Spending in Zambian Agriculture under the theme; ‘Myths versus Facts’, organized by The Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) for Members of Parliament.
And IAPRI Board Chairperson Mick Mwala said the institution’s engagement with Members of Parliament has resulted in several positive policy formulation by government.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture Chairperson Maxas Ng’onga observed the need to review public spending in Zambia’s Agriculture to achieve meaningful results in food security and reducing malnutrition.
And IAPRI Executive Director Chance Kabaghe said there is need to come up with deliberate polices to ensure areas with high rainfall pattern are exploited for agricultural production.
