President Edgar Lungu has held a meeting with members of the Local Government Association of Zambia.
The Association was led by its president Christopher Kang’ombe who is also Kitwe Mayor.
Minister of Local Government Vincent Mwale and Local Government Service Commission Chairperson Amos Musonda were also in attendance.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr Kang’ombe told President Lungu that there is need to increase the Local Government Equalization Fund from 5 per cent to ten percent in order to recapitalize councils.
He also said the association wants councils to take over the running of toll gates and motor vehicle licensing as provided for in the constitution.
Mr Kang’ombe said there is also need to revisit the conditions of service for councilors and mayors.
