Government has set aside 16 Million Dollars for the development of Mwomboshi Irrigation Scheme in Chisamba District under the World Bank funded Irrigation Development Support Project (IDSP).
Agriculture Permanent Secretary Songowayo Zyambo says the development of the irrigation scheme, which involves the piping and construction of canals, will start next month.
Mr. Zyambo says the contractor is already on site and is expected to finish works by November next year.
Speaking when he toured the newly constructed Mwomboshi Dam, Mr. Zyambo disclosed that the World Bank has agreed to extend the IDSP up to November 2020.
He explained that construction of bridges on five tributaries which feed into Mwomboshi Dam has commenced.
Mr. Zyambo expressed happiness that the 28 Million Dollar Dam, which is the biggest irrigation Dam in the country to about 65 million cubic meters of water to benefit over 7-thousand farmers, has now been completed.
