Vice President Inonge Wina says government is ensuring growth in netball because the sport has potential to be a full time career.
Mrs. Wina says like football netball can also provide a decent living for the country’s young girls and women.
The Vice president says the Netball Africa World Cup qualifiers which is hosting will provide an opportunity for netballers to gain valuable experience to promote their career pathways.
Mrs. Wina urged the Zambia national netball team to use the tournament platform to the best of their abilities saying it will be very competitive.
She also called for the demonstration of teamwork if the team is to qualify to the world cup in 2019.
Mrs. Wina said this in a speech read on her behalf by Minister in the office of the Vice president Sylvia Chalikosa during the official opening of 2018 Netball Africa Cup in Lusaka today.
The Vice president also wished all participating countries the very best and to remain focused and disciplined.
And Lusaka Province Minister Boman Lusambo said President Edgar Lungu is committed to developing minor sports and hosting the Africa Championship is testimony of government’s commitment.
And Minister of Sports Moses Mawere in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Sports Permanent Secretary Joe Kapembwa says government will continue supporting the growth of Netball.
Meanwhile Africa Netball Association President Tebogo Sebego said netball is slowly becoming a popular sport and Zambia is doing well to invest in the sport’s infrastructure.
