1,476 COVID-19 CASES IN 24 HOURS
By Etambuyu Katota- Health Minister Jonas Chanda has encouraged Zambians who present symptoms of COVID-19 to visit health facilities.
Dr. Chanda says the demand for oxygen has increased as the second wave of the virus requires oxygen to manage and it is important for patients to visit health facilities early.
He says government is engaging its partners, who include the United States and the European Union, in order to invest more in the provision oxygen.
Dr. Chanda was speaking during a COVID-19 update in Lusaka today.
He said the country has recorded 1,476 new cases in the last 24 hours out of the 11,683 tests conducted.
Dr. Chanda said 12 deaths have also been recorded in the last 24 hours of which 7 have been classified as COVID-19 deaths.
He also disclosed that the country has adequate testing kits and government has engaged its partners to ensure more testing kits are brought into the county.
And Director Infectious Diseases Lloyd Mulenga said 4 private hospitals have been accredited to manage COVID-19 cases.
Professor Mulenga said more private facilities are yet to be accredited.
He adds that the private facilities are being engaged in order to standardize the provision of quality health care.
