Zambia recorded over 500 cases of defilement in the second quarter of this year.
This is a drop from 576 recorded in the second quarter of last year.
Police Spokesperson RAE HAMOONGA says of the figure only two cases involved boys while the 524 cases involve girls.
He says the previous quarter had 5 cases involving boys and 571 were girls.
The Police Spokesperson notes that Lusaka recorded the highest cases at 148 followed by Eastern Province with 86 and Central Province with 63 cases.
And Mr. HAMOONGA says most of the defilement cases involve perpetrators who are related to the victims.
He has since called on parents and guardians not to take chances whenever they leave the children in the care of relatives.
