Zambia will tomorrow receive another batch of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine from the United States of America.
Speaking during the Covid-19 update in Lusaka today, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services KENNEDY MALAMA disclosed that the country will receive One Hundred and 51 thousand 2-hundred doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Dr. MALAMA also said more AstraZeneca vaccines are expected in the country between July month end and the first week of August.
He said all vaccines the country is receiving have been approved.
MEANWHILE Dr. MALAMA revealed that government has made part payment towards acquiring 4-point 4 million Johnson and Johnson vaccine doses from the African Union which are expected to arrive in the country within the third quarter of this year.
He has advised Zambians not to shun the COVID-19 vaccine to propel their chances of fighting the pandemic.
In the last 24 hours, the country recorded 21 Covid-19 deaths and 6-hundred and 40 new cases of the viral disease.
AND Dr. MALAMA has advised Zambians against prescribing themselves Azithromycin to treat COVID-19.
He said self-prescription can cause antimicrobial resistance.
MEANWHILE, Director Infectious Diseases LLOYD MULENGA said only health personnel are authorised to prescribe medicines to patients.
