CHIEF JUSTICE’S BODY ARRIVES IN ZAMBIA
The body of Chief Justice IRENE MAMBILIMA has arrived in the country from Cairo, Egypt.
The Chief Justice passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 in Egypt after falling ill while on official duty.
And Speaking to ZNBC News when receiving the body, Acting Chief Justice MICHAEL MUSONDA said the remains of the Chief Justice have been deposited at Ideal funeral parlor.
Justice MUSONDA said burial will take place on Saturday and will be preceded by a valedictory session and a church service at the Anglican Cathedral after which the body will be taken to Lusaka’s Memorial Park for burial.
He said the country’s judicial system is unanimously overwhelmed with the death of the Chief Justice who was a rock in the judicial system.
The Acting Chief Justice said Justice MAMBILIMA was a rock and advocate for justice.
He said even though she was due to retire in March next year on her 70th birthday, Justice MAMBILIMA remained an important resource in teaching the new judges and was involved in a lot of regional work within the Southern Africa Chief Justice forum.
And Zambia’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, EMMANUEL CHENDA said the family has lost a pillar and mother to all.
Mr. CHENDA who spoke in his capacity as family representative has since thanked President EDGAR LUNGU for the support rendered to the family and honor bestowed on Justice MAMBILIMA by according her three days of national morning.
He has further thanked the judiciary for providing comfort and immense assistance towards to the funeral.
