Chief Munkonge calls for early delivery of inputs
NAIS-Chief MUNKONGE of the Bemba people in Kasama district has appealed to the New Dawn Government to deliver on time farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme -FISP.
The traditional leader says early delivery of farming inputs will enable farmers to plan for the 2022-2023 farming season.
He says the 2021-2022 farming season was characterized by delayed delivery of some farming inputs among other reasons which affected production in the chiefdom.
Chief MUNKONGE said this during a semi-agricultural block show that was held in Bulunda Agricultural Camp in Kasama district under the theme “innovation through technology.”
This was in a speech read on his behalf by his advisor MORGAN MULENGA.
MEANWHILE, Munkonge Agricultural Block Chairperson FREDERICK CHISHIMBA called on Government to expedite road works on the feeder roads saying small scale farmers are affected by the deplorable state of the stretch.
Mr. CHISHIMBA said the poor state of local roads has increased the transportation costs thereby compelling farmers to sell their produce at a low price.
AND Kasama district Senior Agricultural Officer JOHN CHILUNDIKA revealed that the ministry of agriculture is working on reducing the officer farmer ratio to increase awareness on sustainable agricultural practices.
