Home Affairs Minister, Stephen Kampyongo says government will formulate mechanisms to protecting children against cyber-space abuse and
manipulation.
Mr. Kampyongo says government is worried that the increase in access to internet by children is posing a threat on their wellbeing, as they can fall prey to abuse and manipulation.
The Minister has explained that the new mechanisms and the enforcement of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes laws will deter culprits from abusing the cyber space to manipulate, traffic and entice children to indulge in illicit activities.
First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Mission in Japan Yotamu Mugara reports that Mr. Kampyongo was speaking in Kyoto, Japan, before departure, after attending the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
He has since urged parents to monitor activities of their children, especially on social media as a measure to protect them.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kampyongo says reforms in Zambia’s correctional service have advanced, with a focus on empowerment of youthful prisoners, with various skills.
