
CHINESE COMMUNITY DONATES

The Chinese Community in Zambia has donated over One point two Million Kwacha towards humanitarian response to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.
Speaking when she received the donation Vice President Inonge Wina assured the Chinese Community that the donation will be used for the intended purpose.
Mrs. Wina said DMMU handles donations and distributions in the most transparent manner by ensuring that monthly reports are issued for all transactions.
She said government is working tirelessly to mitigate the negative effects of the drought through intensified distribution of relief food and plans to increase the school feeding programme.
She praised the Chinese Community for the gesture of generosity and reaffirmed government’s commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation with the people’s republic of China.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie said China stands ready to support the process of agriculture modernisation in Zambia as it has potential to be the food bucket of the region.
Mr. Li said the Chinese community were compelled to make the donation to help the people in need overcome drought which is a temporary challenge.
Meanwhile, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU -National Coordinator, Chanda Kabwe thanked the seventeen companies for the donation and appealed to other firms to consider donating roofing sheets to help repair over One hundred public institution that have had their roofs blown off.
