Chitotela calls for more aggression in marketing tourism
Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has called for more aggressive marketing strategies to further grow the tourism industry.
Mr. Chitotela says Zambia is endowed with rich and diverse cultural heritage which need to adequately need to be marketed by key players in the tourism sector.
The Minister said this in a speech read for him by Ministry of Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Dr. Auxilia Ponga during the workshop to create awareness about heritage and tourism sites of Lusaka among Taxi drivers.
Mr. Chitotela also called on taxi drivers to work closely with the National Heritage Conservation Commission and other stakeholders to make tourists feel welcome.
He said taxi drivers play a vital role in promoting tourism because they are like the receptionist of tourists.
And National Heritage Conservation Commission executive director Collins Chipote said the commission organised the workshop for selected taxi drivers for them to become good city guides.
Mr. Chipote said there is need for taxi drivers to fully understand most heritage sites and explain well to tourists.
