Covid -19: MoH determining extent of the disease

Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says the Ministry is still determining the extent of the Covid -19 disease in the country.
Dr Chilufya says this is why mass screening and targeted testing will continue in selected parts of Lusaka to help ascertain the extent of the pandemic.
The Minister says mass screening and testing will this week be done in Lusaka’s Rhodespark and Madras in Kamwala among other areas.
Dr Chilufya has appealed to Lusaka residents to cooperate with the medical officers who are carrying out mass screening and targeted testing.
He says following the screening and testing conducted in Lusaka, over 7-hundred samples have been taken and results are being awaited.
Dr Chilufya also disclosed that Zambia has recorded four new confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, which brings the cumulative number of cases to 88.
He said among the four cases, three are from Lusaka, while One is from the Copperbelt Province.
Dr Chilufya said currently five Covid-19 patients are in isolation on the Copperbelt.
He was speaking during the routine Covid 19 update in Lusaka today.
Meanwhile, Dr Chilufya has thanked the Religious groupings that have cooperated with the government and opted not to re-open church services due to the outbreak.
He also thanked the media for the role they are playing in disseminating information to the public aimed at influencing behavioural change.
Dr Chilufya however stressed that the call to action is to stay home and safe.
And Dr Chilufya said Government has been working well with the Zambia Medical Association and the Resident Doctors to ensure all Personal Protective Equipment is made available to the medical Personnel.
He however said most of the PPE’s have been distributed to all the key areas.
