DEC TO USE SPORT TO FIGHT DRUG ABUSE- SIMWAYI
By Patricia Banda
The Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC- has signed a partnership with the Kuku Sports complex management in an effort to address drug abuse in communities of Kuku and Chawama compounds.
DEC Director General Musonda Simwayi said the Commission has decided to use sports as a way of reaching out to Youths and Mothers for them to know the negative effects of drugs.
Simwayi explained that in the past few years, it has not been easy to get the communities for sensitization of drug abuse.
He was speaking when he launched the partnership at Kuku Sports ground before a Women Football match between Drug Enforcement Commission officers and that from the Community.
Simwayi explained that the Commission will go around with its vehicles in compounds to sensitise the community of Chawama and Kuku on the dangers of drug abuse.
DEC during the same launch organised other sports disciplines such as Athletics, where musicians Elton Mulenga popularly known as YO MAPS and Clifford Dimba also known as KANENE took part before they played music.
And KUKU Sports complex Board Chairperson Ebbey Mubanga has welcomed the partnership with DEC.
Dr Mubanga said management decided to construct the sports complex so that youths can be using it for recreation, away from dangerous vices.
